3 years with the group, doesn’t match 2 days with the homies.

Recent events have unfolded that motivated me to find an aphorism that effectively encompasses my sentiments. Let it be made clear, that i hold neither spite nor derision towards anyone involved. These words by writer Margaret J. Wheatley are simply a reflection of my thoughts. Interpret them at your own discretion.
“In our daily life, we encounter people who are angry, deceitful, intent only on satisfying their own needs. There is so much anger, distrust, greed, and pettiness that we are losing our capacity to work well together.”
Assalamu Alaikum
So today at my rehearsal, we had the privilege of having Derrick Cannon (a professional musician, and music teacher) as our guest conductor. And he brought up perception of music which I have yet to reflect upon in depth. I have always perceived music to be a form of expression and catharsis, but Mr. Cannon also attributed music to being a form of communication. While a slightly familiar concept, this idea is not one I have taught to my “students”. But listening to his lecture made me realize that music is indeed a form of communication between both ensemble and audience, and players within the ensemble. This small revelation immediately made me play differently; I was more cognitive of my fellow musicians and responsive to the music we were playing. This experienced served as a reminder that no matter how long you engage in something, be it art or athletics, there is always more to learn and more to enjoy.
